BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) — A body recovered off Jones Beach has been identified as Zachary Gottfried, the surfer missing since Sept. 8.

The 31-year-old Gottfried disappeared off Long Island's Gilgo State Park.

Police said Gottfried and another man were surfing in 10-foot waves. The second surfer was able to leave the water.

Teams from the New York State Park Police, Coast Guard, Long Beach police, Nassau and Suffolk County police and the Town of Babylon Public Safety searched for Gottfried for five days. The state Park Police said Gottfried's body was found Monday and identified Tuesday.
