Bone on beach 'was missing man's'

A human bone found on a beach in one of the most remote parts of Scotland is believed to be that of a man who vanished more than a year ago, police have said.

Michael Sinclair, 45, has not been seen since April 19 last year, when he left his home in Thurso in the Highlands.

Police said the leg bone was found by a member of the public on Thurso East beach "some weeks ago".

The case is not being treated as suspicious.

A Northern Constabulary spokesman said "extensive" inquiries suggested the bone belonged to Mr Sinclair.

Police said his parents and former partner have been told about the discovery.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
