9/11
Yesterday, members of the Vero Beach Moose Lodge gave a beautiful presentation in remembrance of the historic tragedy on Sept. 11, 2001. Members gave Sheriff Deryl Loar and his deputies cases of Tommy Moose stuffed toys for children in distress. They also made a presentation of checks for the Flight 93 Memorial, a program to which the International Loyal Order of Moose has given more than $500,000. The Indian River County Fire Rescue Honor Guard presented a flag flown in battle in Afghanistan, now being retired.
'No Flea' Market
No fleas here - only deals! The Humane Society of Vero Beach & Indian River County is having a 'No Flea' Market from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday. Sept. 17 at the Humane Society's Education Room. It's a great shopping opportunity and an excellent fundraiser for all the furry and feathered friends at the Humane Society.
"Time Warp" host visits
John Campione and his fellow Education Foundation of Indian River County board members bring Jeff Lieberman - artist, scientist and host of the Discovery Channel's 'Time Warp' - to speak to local students on Sept. 19-20. He explores connections between arts, sciences, education, passion, creativity and the potential future of human consciousness.
Blood drive returns
The Indian River Blood Bank returns to the Indian River Federal Credit Union's Vero Beach office for a Blood Drive from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Sept 30. Donors receive a limited edition 'Fight Cancer' T-shirt in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. Visit www.indianriverbloodbank.com.
Women's Refuge update
Walter Loucks is a dear person who spends astonishing amounts of time volunteering for the Women's Refuge of Vero Beach. He tells Bright Lights they are "blessed to have been honored with a grant gift from PNC Bank in the amount of $5,000. It will be used to continue daily operations of the Refuge to provide a sanctuary where women and families can start over with a new plan for their lives." Visit www.womensrefugevb.org.

Reading program debuts

Buggy Bunch reception
The Buggy Bunch, a non-profit moms' group comprised of more than 1,000 members, hosted a Leadership Recruitment Dessert at Frosting Cupcakes. They were showered with cupcakes, cookies, candies and coffee, plus goodies from the self-serve frozen yogurt machine and toppings bar. The Buggy Bunch gained a new correspondence chair, Saskia Andriulli.
