DEWEY BEACH, Del. (AP) — Mayor Diane Hanson has been re-elected to Dewey Beach's town commission and newcomers Anna Legates and Joy Howell each won two-year terms.

Town officials say Legates was the top vote getter Saturday with 565, followed by Hanson with 480 and Howell with 466. The trio will join incumbent commissioners Marty Seitz and Jim Laird, whose seats were not up for a vote, on the five-member town council.

The debate over Dewey Beach's 35-foot height limit for buildings played a prominent role in the election in the town with a population of about 300 that grows to tens of thousands on summer weekends. Legates, Hanson and Howell were endorsed by Citizens to Preserve Dewey, a political action committee that opposes increasing the height limit at the Ruddertowne complex.
