Four Points begins renovation of round hotel - Tallahassee.com

Ruel Bradley has a long history with the round hotel on Tennessee Street. He was there when the property was purchased in 1968, and was the general manager of the former Holiday Inn there from 1969 to 1982.
"I'm just happy to see that someone has come along with the resources to fix this place up," Bradley said Tuesday during a ribbon-cutting event at the hotel soon-to-be, Four Points by Sheraton.
Construction work to renovate the hotel started after Labor Day, said Bo Schmitz, general manager.
The hotel, scheduled to open in March, will have 164 rooms, 7,100 square feet of meeting space and 10,000 square feet of outdoor space, a full-service restaurant and lounge, and possible coffee shop, Schmitz said.
"I look forward to seeing it complete with the new rooms," Bradley added. "Of course, it looks like a wreck now, but it will be looking nice come March."
The hotel is also seeking the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
Once it's ready to open, the hotel will bring 90 to 100 jobs to the local market.
Peter Walstra, director of operations for owner Union Hotel Co. Tallahassee, said he had been in search of another hotel location for a year. Out of 10 locations, the leading city aside from Tallahassee was Houston.
"We felt Tallahassee was prime for development," Walstra said. "I have looked from San Francisco to the East Coast and we just loved Tallahassee. Plus, I loved the building. From a construction standpoint, this building is built."
Walstra said construction is moving along pretty quickly, and while it doesn't look like much now, the community will begin to major changes soon.
"Once the windows get in and the blue panels are put in, I think you'll start to see the difference," he said. "I hope everybody likes it."
Morning post
Officials of the planned Four Points by Sheraton hotel on West Tennessee Street will conduct a news conference this morning on the construction plans for the renovation of the landmark round hotel.
The 164-room facility, which has been vacant since August 2009 and fell into foreclosure, will have 7,100 square feet of meeting space inside and additional room for outdoor functions.
The new owner is Union Hotel Co. Tallahassee, a limited partnership that also bought the building on the corner where a T-shirt printing and advertising business used to be. That building has since been demolished to make room for the hotel project.
The hotel's management is expected to discuss its plans, construction schedule, and efforts to achieve LEED environmental and energy-saving standards for the facility.
