Investigators from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office are in Crockett, Texas, this afternoon, searching for a Rocky Mount woman they say has been missing since Wednesday.

On Friday, Shirley Ann Hodges was reported missing by her daughter. Hodge's medication, eyeglasses and cellphone were still at her house on Old Forge Road, but her 2004 Chevy Malibu was gone, said Franklin County Sheriff's Lt. Steve McGuire. Also gone was Stanley Crotts, who had been living at the house.

Through his cellphone, Crotts was located in Crockett, Texas. Franklin County investigators notified Crockett law enforcement, who later found the car and Crotts at a local hotel.

When they tried to enter the room, officers heard what they thought was a gunshot, McGuire said. Inside, they found Crotts with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Investigators have teamed up with the Texas Ranger Division and are searching the vehicle for evidence today, McGuire said. Alerts with Hodges description have been issued to localities between Franklin County and Texas through which Crotts may have passed.

Anyone with information about Hodges' whereabouts is asked to call the Franklin County Sheriff's Office at (540) 483-3000 or the anonymous tip line at (540) 483-6620.
