Hawaii hotel occupancy rose by more than 3 percent last week while average room rates went up by 7 percent, according to a report by Hospitality Advisors LLC and Smith Travel Research  .

Statewide, hotels in Hawaii were 75.8 percent occupied during from Sept. 11-17, a rate that was 3.3 percent higher than the same week in 2010, the report said.

The average daily room rate statewide was $175.33, which was a 7 percent boost over the same week last year.

Among the islands, Kauai saw the greatest boost in occupancy and room rates for the week.

Kauai hotels were 68.5 percent occupied, which was 8 percent higher than the same week in 2010, while the average room rate rose 11.7 percent to $192.09.

Hotels on the Big Island were 58.2 percent occupied for the week, which was a 7.4 percent improvement over a year ago. But the average room rate of $162.23 was just 3.3 percent higher than last year.

Maui's average room rate rose 7.3 percent to $204.99, but hotel occupancy nudged up only by 0.8 percent to 69.2 percent.

Oahu hotels followed the statewide trend, with occupancy rising by 2.4 percent and the average daily room rate increasing 6.9 percent to $164.24.
