About a half-dozen protesters paced the sidewalk outside the Andaz hotel Thursday evening with "UNITE HERE" posters, shouting "Shame!" through megaphones at attendees of West Hollywood's 2nd annual Fashion's Night Out.

Hyatt hotel employees in West Hollywood and three other cities launched weeklong strikes to protest work conditions earlier that day.

"Hyatt is abusing housekeepers in Los Angeles and across the country.  I am on strike today—not just for a decent contract—but to fight for our right stand up to Hyatt wherever this giant company is attacking workers," Cathy Youngblood, a housekeeper at the Hyatt Andaz in West Hollywood, said in a UNITE HERE press release.

The union alleges in the statement that Hyatt has violated safety regulations and eliminated jobs by replacing workers with temporary minimum wage employees.

Attendees of the hotel's "pop-up shop," curated by celebrity fashion stylist Brett Alan Nelson, appeared unperturbed by the demonstration.
