Swimming OK at Carlin Park
A no-swimming advisory for Carlin Park was lifted Saturday. The advisory was issued Wednesday after tests found high fecal bacteria levels in beach water, the Palm Beach County Health Department said. The advisory was to have been in place through at least Sept. 26, but was lifted after a test Friday showed the bacteria level was in the "good" range, the health department said.

Police have found an 8-foot-long boa constrictor that escaped Thursday from a resident's home. Several residents were walking along Tequesta Drive and Riverside Drive early Saturday when they noticed the snake and called police, Lt. Jason Turner said. It was captured and taken to police headquarters. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission might take the snake, Turner said.

District weighs injury settlement
A student hit by a school bus last year could receive a $100,000 settlement from the Palm Beach County School District to pay for his medical bills. Ryan Garcia, 18, was crossing Seminole Pratt-Whitney Road on the morning of Oct. 27, headed for Seminole Ridge High School, when he was hit by a bus turning out of the school. According to a school district report, Garcia's medical bills from his injuries, which included surgery to repair an open facial wound, rib fractures and a brain contusion, exceeded $90,000. The proposed liability claim for $100,000 will be voted on by the school board on Wednesday.
