DELTA — West Valley police began searching an area near Topaz Mountain Tuesday as part of their investigation into missing West Valley mother Susan Cox Powell.

Investigators are "following up on information" in the case, said West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Powell.

Cadaver dogs were also being used in the search efforts Tuesday.

"It is anticipated that the current search efforts will continue for more than one day," Powell said, adding that information about the specific details of the search would not be released.

In addition to West Valley police, investigators from the Juab County Sheriff's Office and the Carbon County Sheriff's Office were assisting in the search.

There are several abandoned mines in and around the area of the search. Last month, the same investigators searched an area near Ely, Nev., where many abandoned mines are located.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
