LANSFORD - No one would have blamed Line Mountain's players if they'd have come out against Jim Thorpe on Saturday and were flat.

Line Mountain's week included starting lineman Connor Laudenslager being carried away by ambulance from practice Tuesday with what turned out to be a blood clot that caused a stroke, while the remaining chances to practice were washed out because of flooding in the area.

The Eagles were able to put all that behind them against the Olympians and rolled up nearly 600 total yards of offense in a 62-32 non-conference win, played at Panther Valley Stadium.

"Nothing else has ever come close," Line Mountain head coach Mike Carson said about the strangeness of the week after the Eagles weren't allowed to practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday because they didn't have school.

"Our last real practice was Wednesday of the Southern week. I've never had anything remotely close to this."

Line Mountain (1-1) stuck to what it does best for its game plan - run the ball.

Marty Beninsky scored the Eagles' first touchdown with a 16-yard run, while Kyle Troutman followed that up with runs of 51 and 29 yards.

But while Line Mountain was able to seemingly score at will, the defense was taxed by Patrick Duvigneau, Jim Thorpe's multi-talented quarterback.

Duvigneau had a hand in all five of Jim Thorpe's scores, running in two and throwing for three and had the Olympians (0-2) within eight at the end of the first quarter.

Beninsky was able to find Cole Rickert in the corner of the end zone for his first touchdown pass of the night. After Jim Thorpe answered, Troutman wiggled out of a tackle-for-a-loss and turned it into a 65-yard touchdown run.

Jim Thorpe refused to go away and scored once more to stay with eight at the half.

The Eagles' defense pitched a shutout in the third quarter, while the offense scored three unanswered touchdowns to take a commanding 29-point lead that stuck.

"We made some good adjustments at half time, and we didn't panic," Carson said. "It was little adjustments about were to line up."

Troutman wound up with 217 yards rushing, while Beninsky added 136 rushing and 130 passing.

"Offensively, we were able to run the ball effectively and when Marty threw the ball well, the passing game showed some effectiveness," Carson said.

Laudenslager is reported to be showing remarkable progress after having surgery Tuesday.
