More than 50 people, including Dauphin County Commissioner George Hartwick, rappelled down the side of a Swatara Twp. hotel on Saturday to raise funds for drug and alcohol addiction treatment.

Participants in Gaudenzia's "Over the Edge, Overcoming Obstacles" all rappelled off the roof of the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey during one of the few non-rainy days in the area. Each raised at least $1,000 for the organization.

Gaudenzia offers residential, outpatient and prevention programs for people affected by drug and alcohol dependency, mental illness and related conditions.

Michael Harle, president and CEO of Gaudenzia, said that Gaudenzia's central region treats 4,000 to 5,000 people annually in Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, Lancaster and Schuylkill counties. He said about 80 percent of those people have both drug and alcohol dependency.
