Three more Pennsylvania Turnpike travel plazas are to close as part of an ongoing effort to modernize the highway's plaza system.

Two of the plazas, at Plainfield and Blue Mountain, will close at 7 a.m. Tuesday. The third, at South Somerset, will shut down at 7 am Sept. 12, remaining open until then to accommodate visitors to the Flight 93 Memorial dedication the previous weekend in Shanksville.

All three facilities are scheduled to reopen in May 2012 after they have been rebuilt.

The Plainfield travel plaza, at milepost 219 in Cumberland County, serves eastbound travelers and is located west of the Carlisle exit; the Blue Mountain travel plaza, at milepost 202 in Cumberland County, serves westbound travelers and is located east of the Blue Mountain exit; and the South Somerset travel plaza, at milepost 112 in Somerset County, serves eastbound travelers and is located east of the Somerset exit.

By spring 2014, 17 plazas will have been rebuilt as part of the nine-year project. Nine have been completed in the past five years.
