ELLIJAY, Ga. (AP) — Authorities responding to a report of a home invasion at a gated resort community in the north Georgia mountains now say they believe it was the scene of a murder — and they don't believe home invaders were involved.

Gilmer County sheriff's Lt. Frank Copeland said a man from Stamford, Conn., who had been living at the home with his wife has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. He said the man's wife was found dead. Both are in their 70s.

Copeland said the man had initially called authorities early Wednesday to report that his home at the Coosawattee River Resort had been invaded.

Copeland said evidence led investigators to believe it was not a home invasion.

The resort is about 75 miles north of Atlanta.
