TOPAZ MOUNTAIN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - West Valley City Police say they were wrapping up their search for evidence in the disappearance of Susan Cox Powell in the desert near Topaz Mountain in Juab County on Friday.

WVC Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Powell told ABC 4 News that investigators consider their efforts "successful," in that they were able to recover evidence that may pertinent to their case.

Susan Powell has not been seen since December 6, 2009 when she disappeared from her West Valley City home.

Investigators have been very active in the past month, conducting searches in Ely, Nevada and serving a search warrant at the home of Steven Powell, Susan's father-in-law.

Mike Powell said investigators recovered charred wood from a location that appeared to be a shallow grave where cadaver dogs picked up the scent of human remains. Powell said investigators also recovered clothing that did not seem appropriate for the area during the search.

The charred wood will be sent to a lab for DNA screening.
