The Estero High girls cross country team came away with another first-place finish Saturday at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville.

Kacy Smith led the Wildcats with a seventh-place overall finish, coming in at 19 minutes, 14 seconds, finishing 1:02 behind meet winner Shelby Davidson of Cocoa Beach. Bethany Jenkins finished ninth for Estero (19:22), while Katy Solis (19:40) was 15th.

Gulf Coast claimed 11th place, with Caroline Barlow leading the way, finishing in 11th overall in 19:30. Naples High finished 22nd, with Immokalee taking 25th.

"The girls pulled together to have a fantastic race," Gulf Coast coach Paul Barlow said. "They are beginning to pack closer, and we had a few PRs today."

The Estero boys were also game on Saturday, garnering a fifth-place finish. Aaron Rojas was the top finisher for the Cats, taking fourth in 15:58. Buddy Gates claimed 10th place overall to help Naples High to a ninth-place team finish, while Jean Deceus was 23rd to lead eighth-place Immokalee.

Seahawks have solid run: Lindsay Tomaini nabbed 12th place in 20:22, and Annie Barry was 16th in 20:39 as the Community School girls notched third place at the North Port Invitational.

The Seahawks had 144th points, well behind meet winner Lake Braddock, Va., (24) and Sarasota-Riverview (98).

Also competing for CSN were Sophie Barry (24th, 21:21), Kathryn Dernbach (44th, 22:14), Tristan Burfield (50th, 22:30) and Julia Morse (88th, 23:57).

"I was very pleased with today's race. Everyone went out and had really good races after a few tough weeks of training. It was nice to see some success for all of our hard work." CSN coach Cassie Barone said.

Lely finished seventh in the girls standings, followed by Barron Collier (eighth), St. John Neumann (14th) and South Fort Myers (25th).

In the boys race, CSN's Alex Montgomery was the highest local finisher, taking ninth in 17:00, while Barron Collier's Julien Cuyeu was 13th in 17:17. Lely's Ulysses Vivar was 28th in 17:53.
