DENVER - Most mountain areas will have snow into Thursday morning, but the heaviest accumulation will stay at the highest elevations, according to the Colorado weather forecast.

Cooler air stopped Denver's high temperature at 60 degrees shortly after midnight Wednesday morning. Clouds and the cool Canadian air held temperatures in the 50s for the rest of the day.

9NEWS Meteorologist Becky Ditchfield says the second part of the storm has brought rain and snow to many areas around the state.

Total rainfall could was up to an inch near Lakewood, with close to half an inch near downtown Denver.  Locations near Boulder saw more than an inch and a half by Thursday morning.

In the mountains, the rain/snow line started out at 10,000 feet, but early Thursday morning, light snow could be falling as low as 8,000 feet in the Front Range mountains and foothills.

From the Front Range Mountains all the way to the San Juans for elevations above 9,000 feet, 2 to 6 inches of snow is expected from 3 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.

Trail Ridge Road was closed on Wednesday night due to adverse weather conditions.
