RIVIERA BEACH — A Riviera Beach man nicknamed "Drop" is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting an acquaintance in the mouth last week.
Ralph Oliver Hardwick, 21, is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail without bond. He was arrested on Monday and charged with attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted Florida felon.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Riviera Beach Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of West 28th Street in Riviera Beach on Wednesday at 4:28 p.m., where they found 22-year-old Benjamin Edwards, of suburban West Palm Beach, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face.
Edwards was flown to St. Mary's Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.
On Sunday, Edwards spoke to detectives, though he had a "speech impediment" because of his injury.
Edwards told detectives that he was hanging out with Hardwick, Natasha "Ta-Ta" Davis and someone called "Buster" on the afternoon of Sept. 14 when someone named "Terry" approached Edwards and began to accuse him of stealing $20.
Though the argument was "squashed," Hardwick then came over, pulled out a gun and said," I heard that you were looking for me and that you were going to kill me," according to the probable cause affidavit.
Edwards said Hardwick then shot him in the mouth, the affidavit stated.
Edwards told detectives he never said he was going to kill Hardwick. He did say, however, that he and Hardwick had argued previously because Hardwick had been allegedly robbing people in the area and at some point, he targeted a friend of Edwards called "Squeeze."
