Several road construction projects could become a problem for travellers this holiday weekend. State Transportation officials are urging people to be safe through areas like the I-75 and State Route 35 interchange through dayton.Troopers tell us they are working overtime this weekend to cut down on the crashes, but drivers need to do their part."You need to expect delays and unforeseen slow downs this time of year, especially with the construction zones. You need to increase and be aware of distance. Give plenty of distance between you and the vehicle your following," said Sgt. Chris Colbert.With an estimated 1.3 million Ohioans traveling this Labor Day weekend, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) reminds motorists: "Every Move You Make, Keep It Safe."According to ODOT safety experts, in 2010 more than 2,400 Ohio drivers were involved in crashes during the holiday weekend – with nearly 30 percent of the crashes occurring Friday between 10 am and 6 pm.In addition, an eleven year (2000 to 2010) analysis of Labor Day crashes reveals it is the deadliest holiday weekend with 187 fatalities on Ohio roads.To help motorists plan their trip, ODOT provides a list of on-going construction projects from around the state which could impact their weekend travel.Interstate 70, Clark County (Western Ohio) I-70 between SR 72 and U.S. 40 is undergoing a lane addition. Motorists will encounter construction zones in both directions and a crossover lane on I-70 eastbound. Two lanes of traffic will remain open to motorists in each direction during holiday travel.Interstate 75, Warren County (Southwestern Ohio) Major reconstruction of I-75 in Warren County, adding a lane in each direction of I-75 from SR 122 (Middletown) to the Warren/Montgomery county line. Lane widths are reduced on I-75 so that three lanes of traffic can be maintained on I-75 from south of SR 122 to the Warren/Montgomery county line. While the permanent work zone restrictions remain in place, work is suspended over the holiday and there will be no additional lane closures.Interstate 75, West Carrollton, Montgomery County (Southwestern Ohio) I-75 in the area of the East Central Ave. and Dixie Dr. Interchange is under renovation. Motorists will encounter a construction zone in both directions and a crossover lane on I-75 northbound. Three lanes of traffic will remain open to motorists in each direction during holiday travel.Interstate 75, Dayton, Montgomery County (Southwestern Ohio) I-75 from Main St. to Stanley Ave. and from Edwin C. Moses Blvd. to Fifth St. has construction zones due to the modernization of the interstate through the city of Dayton. Two lanes of traffic will remain open to motorists in each direction during holiday travel.
