Sabre Travel Network has developed the world's first B2B App Centre for the travel industry.

The Sabre Red App Centre will open in November and will act as an online marketplace where travel agents will be able to download apps that help them to meet the expectations of travellers.

Red Apps work in a similar way to iPhone apps and "have limitless possibilities" according to Sabre. Apps could be used to automate agency tasks; manage travel reservations; provide destination tips to travellers; or find restaurant or spa reviews.

The apps could also drive revenue opportunities for travel agents for example through restaurant reservation apps; excursion or event or trip apps. Apps could also be used to integrate with social media channels.

The Sabre Red App Centre will connect into the Sabre Red Workspace, which was launched last year. While some of the apps will be free of charge to download; some will be paid for.

Daniel Naoumovitch, CEO, Sabre Travel Network Middle East announced the launch of the new product at a press conference in Dubai.

Naoumovitch described Red Apps as a product for "the travel agent of the future" and said it would allow travel agents to create a customised workspace in front of them that would allow them to streamline their work more efficiently.

Naz Nizari, senior vice president of Emquest, the technology division of the Emirates Group which acts as distributor for Sabre in the Middle East and Africa was also at the press conference.

Nizari said Emirates has recently re-signed all its accounts with Sabre and has also launched Sabre in Southern Africa for the first time. Naziri said Emirates "had confidence in Sabre products and today's announcement has only reinforced that confidence."

She said she was confident that new products such as the Red App Centre would put Sabre "well ahead of its competitors" in new markets.
