(NewsCore) - Investigators searching for missing Utah mother Susan Powell turned their attention Sunday from the area surrounding Topaz Mountain to the mountain itself, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

About 100 people, some on ATVs or horseback, plus several cadaver dogs, were searching the mountain Sunday after Saturday's search turned up no trace of Powell, West Valley City Police Lt. Bill Merritt said.

Cadaver dogs had picked up on a scent of human remains in the area late last week, but a search Saturday only turned up 100 charred pieces of wood. Merritt said it is believed that the wood may have been used to destroy human remains in the past, but it was not immediately known if it was related to the Powell case.

"There's a very good possibility that this at one point or another was a crime scene," he told the Salt Lake Tribune. "Whether it's linked to ours, we don't know."

Powell was 28 when she was reported missing in December 2009. Her husband, Josh Powell, is the only person to have been named a person of interest in the case, but he has never been arrested or charged.

She was last seen on Dec. 7, 2009, when Josh Powell said he left their home in West Valley City, Utah at 12:30 am to take their two sons, aged two and four, camping in freezing conditions.

Rock hunting was reportedly a hobby of Josh Powell. Topaz Mountain is approximately 30 miles (50km) southwest of Simpson Springs, the area where he said the camping trip took place.
