A Southern California mountain campground has been evacuated and a main highway to Big Bear Lake is closed because a big-rig tanker overturned, spilling 1,000 gallons of gasoline.

The San Bernardino County Sun ( http://bit.ly/npKsOQ) says the tractor-trailer rig hauling 9,000 gallons of gas overturned at 10:20 p.m. Monday on State Highway 38 near Angelus Oaks, a mountain hamlet north of Mentone.

The trucker wasn't hurt.

California Highway Patrol Officer Stan Brake says caretakers at the nearby Cedar Falls campground were told to leave as a precaution. Hazardous materials crews have contained the spill and there is no contamination of streams or lakes.

Highway 38 remains closed Tuesday and the CHP says it may not reopen until Wednesday.

San Bernardino motorists can use Highway 18 to reach Big Bear Lake.
