Surfer is bitten in half by killer shark - The Sun
The tragic body boarder, in his early 20s, was in the water with five friends when the shark — believed to be a Great White — attacked at lunchtime today.
Authorities are still searching for the killer beast, and the victim's severed arms and legs.
He died at the scene in the surfing haven known as The Farm, off Bunker Bay near the western town of Dunsborough. The beach was closed after the attack.
About 30 surfers were in the water when the horror happened, according to beachside cafe employee Deb Pickett.
She said: "We had some sharks spotted far out at sea a few months ago, but they never come this close to the shore."
Local official Ian Stubbs says it was the first shark attack in the area, 150 miles south of Perth, for more than 20 years.
Police spokesman Sgt Graham Clifford said: "The deceased is a male in his early 20s. The person was body boarding at the time with a mate and also three of four to five others were in the water at the time but unfortunately he was taken from the lower part of the body."
Police, who have not yet released the name of the victim, were trying to contact his family to inform them of the tragedy.
A local woman, who did not want to be named, was at the beach with her husband and two young girls when the attack happened.
She said: "They pulled him out of the water and there was a lot of blood on the beach. There was no hope - he was cut in half."
She said two men ran along the beach yelling at people to get out of the water.
She added: "We were just going for a walk along the beach for Father's Day and two young blokes came running up to us trying to get people out.
"There were mainly surfers in the water and everyone cleared out pretty quickly. People were just in panic.
"We go swimming here all the time and my husband surfs so it's lucky he didn't go out today. It's very sad for this young bloke."
The attack follows the death last month of honeymoon Brit Ian Redmond, 30. He was mutilated by a shark off Praslin Island's Anse Lazio beach in the Seychelles in front of new bride Gemma, 27.
