Volleyball: Vero Beach extends unbeaten start to 14-0 - TCPalm

Brittany Wonka had nine aces, six kills and nine digs and Molly Higgins had two aces and 10 digs Tuesday as the Vero Beach volleyball team remained undefeated with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-12 win over Treasure Coast in a District 6-8A match in Port St. Lucie.
Allison Pearce added five aces and six assists and Sakkara Hart had five aces, two kills and two blocks for the Fighting Indians (14-0, 3-0 district).
"We are gearing up for some tough matches," said Vero Beach coach Sarah Eckert. "We are preparing for some upcoming challenges and not thinking so much on being undefeated."
The unbeaten start is the second-longest in the program's 36-year history. The 1994 Indians, coached by Rhonda Peterson, started 20-0 and finished 24-2.
Eckert, in her third season as coach, is 52-7 with two district championships and one regional playoff win.
Vero Beach plays host to Melbourne Central Catholic at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Okeechobee d. South Fork, 25-12, 26-24, 20-25, 25-27, 15-9: Sarah Davis had 47 assists, 10 service points and three aces and Rebekah Bryan had 20 kills and 26 digs for the Brahmans in a District 12-7A match at Okeechobee.
Paige McCrary added 15 kills for Okeechobee (7-4, 3-0 district).
Kenna Dwyer had 34 assists and nine digs, and Kate Ghalacker had 30 digs for South Fork (6-9). Bianca Butler added five kills and three blocks.
Okeechobee plays in the Riverdale Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday in Fort Myers. South Fork plays at Martin County 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Martin County d. Port St. Lucie, 25-7, 25-6, 25-16: Madisen Lydon had 12 aces and 15 serivce points as the Tigers won a District 12-7A match in Stuart.
Mallori Moffat had eight kills and four aces, Megan Koenig had nine assists and nine service points, and Nicole Walch had five aces and four kills for Martin County (11-1, 3-0 district).
Erin Lee had three service points and three assists, and Joan Medina had two kills for Port St. Lucie.
Martin County travels to Chicago on Friday for the ASICS Challenge. Martin County opens with Nazareth (Ill.) at 6 p.m. Friday.
Boynton Beach d. Fort Pierce Westwood, 25-16, 24-26, 26-28, 26-24, 15-12: The Tigers needed 222 points to win a District 15-5A match at Fort Pierce Westwood.
Sebastian River def. Fort Pierce Central 25-5, 25-6, 25-8: Kara Robinson had 36 service points, 13 aces and three kills and Kalin Gabbert had 12 service points, five aces and six kills for the Sharks in a District 12-7A match in Sebastian.
Kali Maurer added nine assists and Tamara Hunt had five aces and two kills for Sebastian River (4-7, 1-2 district).
Sebastian River plays at Port St. Lucie at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Melbourne Central Catholic d. St. Edward's, 25-17, 25-14, 25-14: The Pirates lost to the Hustlers in a District 11-3A match in Melbourne.
For St. Edwards (11-9, 0-4), Paige McGuire had five kills and Brett Harper added six kills.
The Pirates play host to Florida Air Academy at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Morningside Academy d. Community Christian, 25-10, 25-13, 25-13: Katie Anderson had 30 service points, six aces and six kills and Lindsey Evans had six service points, six kills, 12 assists and one dig for the Eagles (4-3, 2-2 district).
Katie Wilson added 11 service points and one kill.
Jena Humphrey had seven digs, one block, three kills and three aces for Community Christian (2-6, 0-4). Karoline Cunningham had eight digs and six service points.
Morningside Academy plays at Wellington Christian at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Community Christian plays host to the Pine School at 4 p.m. Oct. 4.
Trinity Christian d. Pine School, 25-17, 26-24, 25-21: Cassie Pfeiffer had 10 kills and two blocks for the Knights in a non-district loss at Lake Worth.
Lauren Ruby added 11 assists, 10 service points, eight aces, and Lily Mandell had seven digs for Pine School (5-3).
Pine School plays at 5 p.m. Friday at Oxbridge Academy in West Palm Beach.
Covenant Christian d. Master's Academy, 25-13, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22: Dianna Adams had 11 service points, two aces, two kills and two blocks, and Stephanie Jones had seven service points, four aces and six kills for the Patriots.
Taylor Delange added seven service points, two aces, two kills and six digs and Micaela Webb had five service points, one ace, four kills, one assist and three blocks for Master's Academy (5-10).
Master's Academy plays at Brevard Christian at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
