VILLANOVA, Pa. - In its final tournament of 2011, the Villanova volleyball team will travel to American University for the 2011 American Volleyball Classic. The Wildcats will play tough opponents with American, Western Kentucky and Missouri on the schedule.

Villanova will open the weekend on Friday, Sept. 16 vs. American at 7:00 p.m. in Bender Arena. The Wildcats head into the weekend with a 7-3 record having won six of their last seven matches. A six-match winning streak was snapped in a 3-1 decision against TCU. Junior Morgan Petkovich leads the squad with 3.14 kills per set. Senior Kim Maroon is averaging 6.97 digs per set, which leads the BIG EAST and ranks second overall in the NCAA. After recording a season-best 36 digs to help the Wildcats beat Delaware, Maroon had a 27-dig and 30-dig performance against Colgate and TCU, respectively. She was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll. Freshman Allie DiBernardo has had a stellar opening to her collegiate career. She is dishing out 10.78 assists per match, which ranks third in the BIG EAST.

On Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1:30 p.m. Villanova will face Missouri. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 a year ago and enter the tournament with an 11-2 record. They have won seven of their last eight and earned their nation-leading 11th victory in a 3-0 sweep of Denver. Lisa Henning leads Missouri with 3.50 kills per set, while Priscilla Armendariz averages 3.48 digs per set.

Villanova will close the tournament against Western Kentucky at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Lady Toppers hold a 10-1 record with a seven-match winning streak, the lone loss in a 3-0 sweep at Kentucky. Most recently Western Kentucky defeated Tennessee State with a .330 team hitting percentage and just 10 total errors. Jordyn Skinner leads the squad with 4.46 kills per set, while Ashley Potts tallies 5.24 digs per set.
