The gasoline price respite didn't last long.

Gasoline prices are on their way up again following a few weeks of prices dropping along with the stock market.

The national average is up 4.7 cents since last week, according to AAA's fuelgaugereport.com site, which tracks gas prices.

At stations in Coweta, the increases have been more dramatic.

On Aug. 22, one station on Bullsboro Drive had regular unleaded for $3.39; several other stations had it for $3.43.

On Thursday, the cheapest gasoline along Bullsboro was $3.55, according to Gerogiagasprices.com.

The cheapest gasoline in town was at the two Kroger fuel centers, where regular unleaded was $3.49.

The Georgia state average was $3.571 on Thursday, up from $3.56 Wednesday and $3.512 a week ago.

On Aug. 22, the state average was $3.506.

Hurricane Irene doesn't seem to have had much of an effect on gasoline and oil prices. Though the storm caused major problems along the East Coast, it didn't damage refineries, terminals or pipelines, according to Greg Laskoski of the Gas Buddy Blog.

Instead, the increase may be due to the expected increase in demand over Labor Day weekend.

There's also the slight turn in the economy, which has investors looking up again.

And there is the belief that the Federal Reserve might start another round of stimulus activity to add liquidity to the economy, according to "Consumer Reports." This move would weaken the dollar, thus making oil purchased with dollars more expensive.
