Thousands of passengers are dealing with a travel nightmare as Hurricane Irene continues its track along the East Coast.Passanger Peter Zayas says he will not get home to New Jersey until next week because flights into and out of the Northeast have been canceled. He's convinced all the weather hype is scaring people for no reason."I think the flight could have been on time, but they wanted to side with safety. It's out of my control," Zayas told Local 10.But Hurricane Irene continues to be a major threat, one that President Barack Obama, F.E.M.A and state leaders are taking seriously.Aviation officials say they will close 5 New York area airports beginning at noon on Saturday including John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Stewart International Airport and Teterboro Airport.Several major airlines have already dropped ticket change fees for passengers scheduled to fly to or from cities along the East Coast. Some people scrambled to find an alternate route home, but most are stuck until Irene passes. At 10 a.m. Saturday, Miami International Airport announced 84 flights were canceled. At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, 50 flights had been canceled.
