Six local teams collect victories at AAU Tour Championships of beach volleyball in Hermosa Beach
Some of the South Bay's best young beach volleyball players defended their home turf and then some Sunday, collecting six of the nine division titles in the AAU Tour Championships at the Hermosa Beach Pier.
Area boys were particularly dominant, winning four of the five age-group crowns and putting eight teams in those championship matches.
Chris Orenic (Manhattan Beach) and Dillon Hoffman (San Clemente) teamed to defeat Ryan Turley (Manhattan Beach) and Matt Reilly (Manhattan Beach) in the boys 18-and-under final.
Vincent Pizzuti (Redondo Beach) and Devon Burki (Torrance) topped Tyler Bird (Redondo Beach) and Tyler Cobian (Ventura) in the 16U final. Connor Inlow (Manhattan Beach) and Bobby Nolan (Manhattan Beach) finished third in the 16U division.
Kyle Jasuta (Manhattan Beach) and Trevor Liu (Manhattan Beach) defeated the Huntington Beach duo of Blake Diamond and Ben Vaught in the 14U final, while Jake Walmer (Manhattan Beach) and Sebastian Rodrigues (Hermosa Beach) topped Jason Walmer (Manhattan Beach) and Nick Bakos (Manhattan Beach) in the 10U final.
The Claremont duo of Johnny Abrolat and Christian Settles were the only non-South Bay-based team to win a boys title, defeating JP Reilly (Manhattan Beach) and Ian Pizzuti (Redondo Beach) in the 12U final.
Peyton Chang (Redondo Beach) and Keala Rusher (Manhattan Beach) defeated Camille Davey (San Clemente) and Ayla Fresenius (Laguna Niguel) in the girls 14U final.
Chloe Markland (Manhattan Beach) and Skylar Morgan (Hermosa Beach) shared third-place honors in that division with Emma Smith (Manhattan Beach) and Mima Mirkovic (Irvine).Riley Hazelrigg (Hermosa Beach) and Kristen Cordero (Manhattan Beach) were the other South Bay girls to win a division title, defeating the Pacific Palisades duo of Mary McGeagh and Caroline Douglas in the 10U final.
Courtney Crosby (Los Alamitos) and Jordyn Sanchez (Huntington Beach) defeated the Long Beach duo of Haley Martin and Natalie Berkowitz in the girls 16U final. April Bustamante (Redondo Beach) and Olivia Rodberg (Manhattan Beach) shared third-place honors in that division with the Encinitas duo of Paige Hines and Morea Wagner.
The Huntington Beach duo of Cami Sanchez and Lindsey Sparks defeated Devon Chang (Pacific Palisades) and Milan Stokes (Long Beach) for the 12U crown. Piper Monk (Manhattan Beach) and Kyana Morgan (Hermosa Beach) shared third-place honors in that division with Roxie Wiblin (Berkeley) and Milla Anderson (Danville).
