The following is the latest information released Saturday morning by Lt. Peter Eakley of the Millburn Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management, posted here in its entirety:
1) Millburn Township OEM met with representatives of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), New Jersey State Police Office of Emergency Management, and the Essex County Sheriffs Office – Office of Emergency Management this morning and took a tour of the Township to inspect the damage by Hurricane Irene. FEMA stated that individual assistance (IA) and Small Business Administration (SBA) personnel will be on the ground within the week to start to offer eligible assistance, including low interests loans. As this information becomes formalized we will ensure that information is readily available to our residents and businesses.
2) Since water has been restored, the bottle water distribution center at South Mountain School will be closed today at 1:30 p.m. New Jersey American Water Company intends to move most of the remaining water to people in Somerset County whose homes are still underwater.
3) We are still asking our residents to not use their lawn sprinklers for the next week to preserve/increase pressure in the New Jersey American Water Companies distribution system. The Millburn Fire Department will still maintain the Tanker Task Force until further notice.
4) Power is still off to the Chatham Road area, South Terrace, Montview Road, Lake Road, East Lane and Lakeview Road Area. We have been on the phone with the electric company. JCP&L stated they are confident the power will be on later today, but we have all heard this before and do not share in their confidence. JCP&L mapping programs state that there are 957 customers still without power in our Township.
5) The following roads are still closed:
- Intersection of East Lane and Lake Road is still closed – low hanging wires de-energized
- Lakeview Avenue between West Road and Route 124 – low hanging wires de-energized
- Brookside Drive between Glen Avenue and South Orange Avenue (because of debris removal)
