There are just five days left until the end of the season on Labor Day, so enjoy fine beach days like today as much as you can.
On the beach at Ninth Street on Thursday morning, we're watching a beautiful sunrise over some glassy hip-high waves that a pair of longboarders are enjoying. The sky is clear, the air is cool and life is good.
The official forecast calls for a high of 79 degrees, no precipitation and some light winds out of the east. The ocean water temperature is 72 degrees. Tides are high at 10:27 a.m. and low at 4:45 p.m. on the ocean side of the island.
Surf: The air is still, and the ocean glassy on Thursday morning. The north end doesn't look like it has much to offer, and a few surfers are showing up on the south side of the Ninth Street jetty, where they're taking advantage of some clean two-footers that are peeling left. Nothing heart-pounding, but it looks like fun. In the tropics, Hurricane Katia was named last night, and looks to be on a track up the Atlantic Ocean. That could mean waves next week.
Traffic: No issues this morning.
