OCEAN RIDGE, Fla. - Police and fire rescue agencies from across Palm Beach county were called out on Saturday afternoon after a suspicious package containing an unknown white powder turned up inside a mailbox in the small community of Ocean Ridge.
The suspicious package was found in the mailbox of a home located at 15 Ridge Boulevard.
Neighbors say the mailbox belongs to the brother of Vice President Joe Biden.
The official website of the Florida Legislature lists this particular address as the mailing address of Francis Biden, the Vice President's brother.
Officials on the scene would not confirm if Francis Biden lived there or was at the home when the incident happened.
Boynton Beach Fire Rescue confirmed the package arrived via the U.S. Postal Service.
"We had the United States postal service investigating, the FBI investigating, obviously," Boynton Beach Fire Rescue spokesman Steve Lewis said.
Authorities say they placed the box on the hood of a car near the mailbox and then called for help.
As a precaution two people were rushed to a local area hospital.
Hazmat crews collected the white powder and the packaging it came in for examination.
The FBI reported the preliminary tests did not indicate that the content of the package was "threatening in nature."
No word from authorities on the condition or identities of the man and woman invovled.
