The National Weather Service measured a record low at Daytona Beach International Airport Sunday morning, meteorologist Jonathan Guseman said.

The temperature fell to 56 degrees about 7:30 a.m., a degree cooler than the record for Oct. 2 set in 2001.

"We had a pretty strong early-season cold front move through the area," Guseman said.

The front brought cooler and drier air from the northwest. A normal low for this time of year is about 70 degrees, while highs typically reach the upper 80s.

The high temperature was expected to reach 78 degrees Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

The forecast calls for high temperatures in the lower to mid 80s all week long. A slight chance of showers will develop Tuesday night and continue Wednesday and Thursday.

At the beaches, the rip-current risk is low. Surfing conditions are poor.
