Giants DEs Umenyiora and Tuck travel to Arizona for action - FanIQ (blog)
Posted on Sunday, October 2, 2011 by destination tips travel
The New York Giants have informed that wide receivers Brandon Stokley and Price Amukamara are the only players that will not be travelling with the Giants to Arizona this week.
The absence of Stokely and Amukamara comes as no surprise as Giants' medical team had already announced the possibility of their absence from Week 4 of NFL. Stokely has injured his quadriceps while Amukamara is still nursing his foot from injury.
Stokely and Amukamara'd absence from the Sunday game against Arizona Cardinals means head coach, Tom Coughlin will be forced to make a couple of tough decisions. With Coughlin out of quality options for wide receivers he is expected to do some major shuffling, for instance Pro Bowl defensive ends Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck could play against Cardinals this week.
However, Umenyiora and Tuck have just recently recovered from their injuries. Umenyiora has been out of action because of a knee injury while Tuck is experiencing pain in his neck and shoulders.
Coughlin is short of options therefore he will have to depend on the cards he has for now. In a press release earlier in the week, Umenyiora was eager to make his debut this week. Umenyiora told media that he had been working in rehab for the past couple of weeks and this week he rejoined the squad and attended practices with the team.
Umenyiora told media in his press release that he was optimistic about being presented with a playing opportunity and hoped would make the best of it. Sources have confirmed that Umenyiora has been practicing with the team for three consecutive days this week. When Umenyiora was questioned if the arthroscopic surgery on his right knee could hamper his chances of playing he stated that if he was in good shape before the match then he would surely be on field.
Umenyiora has been out of action since mid-August. Giants injury woes have provided him the perfect platform for a comeback. "It's exciting," Umenyiora said after practice. "This is what I like to do, love to do. I will get a chance to do that, whether it's this week or whenever it is, I am excited about that."
Tuck on the other hand practiced for the first time this week on Friday. His status is still listed as questionable but so is Umenyiora's.
