LONG BEACH — An estimated 25,000 runners, walkers and cyclists will hit the streets next weekend for the 27th annual Long Beach International City Bank Marathon.

The event kicks off Oct. 9 at the starting line on Shoreline Drive next to Rainbow Lagoon Park. The 26.2-mile bike tour starts at 6 a.m., followed by the wheelchairs/handcycles at 6:55 a.m., and the 26.2-mile marathon and 13.1-mile half marathon both at 7 a.m. The Run Forrest Run 5 K starts at 8:30 a.m.

The full marathon takes runners on a scenic course through the city, passing the Queen Mary, Belmont Shore, Colorado Lagoon and Cal State Long Beach before crossing the finish line back on Shoreline Drive.

Marathon and half-marathon participants are given a time limit of 72 1/2 hours from the start of the race. Everyone must be finished by 2:30 p.m.

In addition to the race events Oct. 9, the Aquarium of the Pacific is holding a free Kids Fun Run! on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Those looking to get a healthy dose of carbohydrates the night before the big race can visit Buono's Pizza at 205 W. Ocean Blvd. for its annual "All You Can Eat" Mamma Mia Carbo-Load Dinner Feast. The dinner, which costs $16, is from 5-7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is also offering a Carbo Load Dinner on Saturday from 5-7 p.m.

A detailed list of street closures and alternate routes will be published within the next few days.
