LONG BEACH - The city on Saturday celebrated the grand opening of the new Mother's Beach restrooms and concession building.
The popular beach at 5839 Appian Way in Marine Park now features a concession area with a full cooking kitchen and new seating area. The revamped restrooms include safe and family-friendly individual stalls as well as two handicapped-accessible stalls.
A new outdoor shower was constructed at the beachfront, and walkways have been extended to provide a quick route from the beach to the play area. The project also includes new drinking fountains and exterior lighting.
The $850,000 project was funded through Long Beach's Tidelands Fund, which is supported by a share of revenues from the Port of Long Beach and other sources. The money can only be used in coastal tidelands areas.
"This facility will make Mother's Beach an even more enjoyable place for our community to enjoy," 3rd District Councilman Gary DeLong said in a statement.
