A person of interest in a double homicide in North Carolina has been arrested in Myrtle Beach.

David William Hamilton, 26, was named a person of interest in a double homicide that happened Friday afternoon in Huntersville, NC. Late Friday night, police said he may have been in Myrtle Beach. Captain Michael Kee of the Huntersville Police told NewsChannel 15 his cell phone was pinged in the Myrtle Beach area Friday afternoon.  He was found at a Myrtle Beach motel about 11:30pm Friday and taken into custody. Police had a description and license tag for the SUV Hamilton was believed to be in.

Lt. Doug Furlong with Myrtle Beach Police says police and family members negotiated with Hamilton in the motel room and convinced him to come out. As he was walking out of room, he was taken into custody.

Hamilton has been transferred to J Reuben Long Detention Center to await extradition back to North Carolina. Because he was listed as a fugitive, he could fight extradition.

Police say a man and woman were found dead Friday afternoon in the home where Hamilton lives. For more on the crime, click here.

Hamilton is a diagnosed schizophrenic and has possibly stopped taking his medication.
