BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office bomb squad was investigating a suspicious package in a mailbox near Ridge and North Ocean boulevards in Boynton Beach late Saturday afternoon.Investigators said two people, who came in contact with the package, were taken to an unidentified hospital as a precaution.Boynton Beach Fire Rescue spokesman Steve Lewis said they received the call just before 1 p.m."Boynton Beach fire rescue responded to the address and did find a package that had a powdery substance coming from it," Lewis said. The home is listed as the mailing address for Frank Biden who is the brother of Vice President Joe Biden. It is unclear if he was home at the time.Investigators said police were at the scene with hazmat crews, including the FBI and U.S. Postal Service detectives.Kathy Volpe lives in the neighborhood and watched the activity from across the street."Apparently we found out that the vice president's brother lives right down the street," Volpe said."Nobody here knew that, and apparently he was given a suspicious thing in his mailbox," she said. The bomb squad checked out the package and determined there were no explosives inside.Citing patient privacy laws, investigators would not release the names of the people taken to the hospital.Hazmat crews later suited up to run preliminary tests on the substance. The FBI issued a statement saying, "preliminary tests indicate that the contents of the package were deemed not to be threatening in nature."The package was taken to a lab in Miami for further tests.Refresh this page for updates.
