It's looking like a fairly good start to the holiday weekend.
On Saturday morning on the beach at North Street, we watched a beautiful sunrise into a clear sky as surfers enjoyed head-high waves. The ocean water temperature was a warm 75 degrees, and there appeared to be no sign of rain.
But a line of clouds started to move in, and that appears to be the trend in the official National Weather Service forecast, which calls for a mostly cloudy day with a high of 79 degrees and light wind out of the south.
There's a small chance of rain starting tonight, but it appears from the NWS forecast that it will hold off until Monday night.
Surf: The waves on Saturday morning aren't exactly pretty -- not the clean lines we've seen for most of the week. But they have some size. On the north end, it seems to be breaking well at North Street, where peaky sets are popping up head-high. High tide is shortly after noon today.
Traffic: Looks as if the island is jammed for the holiday weekend, but there are no issues this morning.
