American extends deal with reservations operator - BusinessWeek

American Airlines says it has extended a deal that will keep its flights listed on reservations systems run by Sabre Holdings Corp., owner of the Travelocity website.

The agreement was scheduled to expire Wednesday. The companies agreed to extend it until after American's antitrust lawsuit against Sabre is over -- probably next year, a spokesman for the airline said Tuesday.

Travel agents could have lost access to American's flights and fares if the deal had expired.

Airlines, travel agents and reservations systems are fighting over control of flight, fare and schedule information. American wants to provide more information directly to travel agents, which could reduce its costs and let it better tailor offerings to customers.

AMR shares rose a penny to $3.55 in afternoon trading.
