BOCA RATON, Fla., Aug 29, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Office Depot /quotes/zigman/236952/quotes/nls/odp ODP +3.56% , celebrating 25 years as a leading global provider of office supplies and services, today announced the expansion of its shredding and secure document archiving service program.
Office Depot now offers three distinct options for secure shredding services designed to meet the growing security needs of businesses and consumers alike. In a new agreement with Iron Mountain Incorporated /quotes/zigman/254833/quotes/nls/irm IRM +1.22% , the information management company, Office Depot will now offer this expanded service to provide customers with convenient, secure shredding options for jobs of any size.
The following shredding services are now available at every Office Depot:
-- Shredding while you wait: Customers can bring in documents into any Office Depot retail location and watch while their materials are safely and securely destroyed for just 99 cents per pound. Additionally, Office Depot can provide document scanning for a nominal fee, allowing customers to leave with a digital record of their document that was destroyed.
-- Shredding Drop Off: Through its partnership with Iron Mountain, Office Depot also offers secure document drop-off and destruction. Customers with larger volumes of materials for shredding will have their documents placed in a secure bin, which Iron Mountain will pick up directly from Office Depot for shredding.
-- Business shredding: Businesses with more extensive shredding needs can have their confidential documents picked up through Iron Mountain. Customers simply visit an Office Depot retail location to schedule the business shredding service and pick up boxes that will hold up to 35 pounds each of materials.
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), identity theft affects as many as 10 million Americans each year and is the fastest growing form of fraud in North America. The FTC estimates that the average victim of identity theft spends 200 to 600 hours and approximately $1,500 to restore their identity. Shredding personal and business documents and properly discarding them is an important precaution.
"Shredding has become a personal and business necessity in order to be protected from financial loss, identity theft, and more," said Kristin Micalizio, Vice President of Office Depot's Copy & Print Depot. "Whether a customer chooses to visit one of our more than 1,100 stores or have Iron Mountain come directly to their place of business, this new agreement allows us to provide Office Depot customers with a number of safe and secure shredding options."
"Information privacy and security are priorities for businesses and consumers alike," said Doug Balsley, Vice President for Secure Shredding, Iron Mountain. "Our goal is to make it easier for consumers and small businesses to securely shred their information and keep their confidential information private. Combining our shredding services with Office Depot's national footprint gives consumer and business customers of Office Depot easy access to secure shredding."
