An Unforgettable South Africa Honeymoon
Posted on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 by destination tips travel
A South African honeymoon can be the perfect antidote to the hectic schedule of planning a wedding - the ideal location for a little pampering and indulgence. A country of extraordinary diversity South Africa is fast becoming one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in Africa. It has excellent road networks, internal flights and luxurious travel facilities making it the most developed country on the continent. However, if you want to get away from it all you can still leave the beaten track and explore the tropical sandy beaches, snow capped mountains and of course the South African bush.
A South African honeymoon will also deliver fantastic weather. The country has year round sunshine. Some areas have a sub tropical climate, whilst Cape Town and the Garden Route is often described as having a Mediterranean climate, with warm mild summers and slightly chillier winters. The seasons in South Africa are opposite to ours with summer generally from October to April over most of the country. This time of year is characterised by hot weather - with balmy evenings and the occasional thunderstorm. Summer temperatures in the Kruger National Park can reach around 30째C with short sharp afternoon lightening storms clearing quickly, leaving behind a warm, earthy smell that can only be experienced in Africa.
Another great benefit to honeymooning in South Africa, particularly if you are looking to relax after your wedding is the fact that the country is only an hour ahead of the UK during the summer months and 2 during winter. This means that you don't have to worry about jetlag on your way out or on the way home and can simply enjoy your holiday and relax. English is also widely spoken and South African's drive on the left which means if you're from the UK you can take to the road with ease and without worrying about being on the wrong side of the road. This is perfect if you fancy hiring a car and exploring on your own away from a guided tour.
Many people who visit South Africa will be keen to include a safari in their trip, but you can also enjoy city breaks and a beach stay all in the one trip. From the city life of Cape Town, to the beautiful game reserves of the Kruger and the unspoilt beaches of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa has something to offer everyone. May to November is the ideal time for whale watching along the coast and in the Kruger and Madwike Game Reserves, the winter months bring crisp, dry sunny days which are perfect for game viewing (the average daily temperature is around 23째C here at this time of year). Sparse vegetation in this region also makes it much easier to spot animals that are drawn to waterholes for a drink.
If you fancy enjoying South Africa's fine wines then the Winelands of the Western Cape are the destination for you. There are numerous estates in this region where honeymooners can spend romantic afternoons on picnics, enjoy lunch on the veranda overlooking the vineyards or experience wine tastings at some of the region's most famous estates who produce award winning, red, white and sparkling wines.
If you did want to venture into the bush honeymooners can relax in luxurious suites at the many Game Reserves. Many offer a private butler service catering to your every whim, whilst you explore the countryside with its wide open spaces and stunning wildlife on a game drive accompanied by a professional game ranger and tracker.
If you're looking to spend you honeymoon in a country that will deliver great weather, allow you to relax and indulge yourself then, South Africa is a place to be pampered offering every luxury imaginable. You will most definitely leave feeling wonderfully spoilt and relaxed, which is what a South Africa honeymoon is all about.
