LONDON, Oct 18, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- As part of its running series of infographics- celebrating 170 years since being founded in 1841- renowned worldwide travel company Thomas Cook has turned its attention to the high seas; celebrating the triumphs of shipping exploration, which have contributed in today's large cruise liners taking thousands of holidaymakers to all corners of the globe.

As Cunard's Queen Elizabeth celebrates her own one year anniversary, to mark the evolution of passenger ship travel, Thomas Cook is today launching the Passenger Ship Travel Through The Ages info-graphic -- a graphically illustrated timeline highlighting those historical feats of exploration and engineering, which have enabled passenger ship travel to evolve into today's globally popular holiday cruises.

The info-graphic was designed by young illustrator Anna Trench -- known for her political satire illustrations with the Guardian.

From the behemoth sized, Syracusia, which only sailed once in 240 BC, to the large cruise liners regularly operating today, the timeline represents the achievements of those historic explorers who continually showed endeavour when battling the high seas; sailing these remarkable ships to new unforeseen worlds. Their astonishing courage has ensured that today every destination on earth is always within our grasp.

Some of the most famous ships have been catalogued; beautifully illustrated along with simple facts beside them to truly show how special they were.

Commenting on the info graphic, a spokesperson for Thomas Cook said "From those early vessels, which helped explorers travel to the unknown, to the iconic feats of engineering, which have shaped passenger travel today, it's truly remarkable to see how much things have changed. This info-graphic beautifully represents the triumphs of nautical travel."

With over 30 cruise lines to choose from, Thomas Cook has been successful in building an enviable reputation as the UK's number one cruise retailer able to search the entire market to find the best cruise deals and provide independent, specialist advice for its customers.
