Eckhart surfs into Beach Boys role

Aaron Eckhart could be showing off his singing chops in a forthcoming Beach Boys biopic.

The Battle: Los Angeles star is said to be in talks to play Dennis Wilson, the late drummer and songwriter of the famous family, in The Drummer: The Story Of Dennis Wilson Of The Beach Boys, reported Variety.

The film, to be directed by Randall Miller and written by Jody Savin - the duo behind 2008's wine comedy Bottle Shock - will focus on the the life of the tragically troubled musician, who was friends with Charles Manson and battled an alcohol addiction, while releasing one critically acclaimed solo album Pacific Ocean Blue, which has since become a cult favourite.

Dennis died at the age of 39, drowning in Marina Del Rey after a day of drinking.

The Drummer is scheduled to start shooting in mid-spring.

Aaron, who is rumoured to be recording his own renditions of Dennis' songs, is expected to start working on his upcoming role as Frankenstein's monster Adam in I, Frankenstein.
