WARSAW, Poland — Photos of drawings and artifacts clandestinely made by Nazi death camp inmates during World War II are on show at the Auschwitz museum and are to travel next to the United States.

A museum spokesman, Pawel Sawicki, said Tuesday that the "Forbidden Art" exhibition is on show at the former camp bath building at Auschwitz I, the original part of the death camp.

Large color pictures show drawings and sculptures made by inmates of Auschwitz and the Buchenwald and Ravensbrueck German death camps.

The exhibition is also to travel to Washington and Detroit this year. The originals remain in storage at Auschwitz to protect them from possible damage.

More than 1 million people, mostly Jews, died at Auschwitz between 1940-45.
