INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A burglary suspect being held at the Indian River County seriously injured another inmate in a jail cell fight last week, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office said.

Stanley Robert David, 25, previously of the 700 block of 20th Street, Vero Beach, was charged with attempted murder for the Sept. 20 attack. The other inmate, 25-year-old Timothy Rogers, previously of the 8600 block of 65th Drive, Sebastian, suffered four facial fractures after David repeatedly stomped on his head, according to the warrant affidavit. Rogers was treated for a couple of days at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce and returned to the jail.

On May 4, corrections deputies charged David with criminal mischief for destroying a phone at the jail. Rogers was a witness in the case against David, who was placed in solitary confinement for 30 days, the affidavit states.

David and Rogers were placed in the same cell block at the end of August, officials said. There were no conditions to keep the inmates separated in light of the criminal mischief charge, according to the affidavit.

Several inmates said they heard David arguing with Rogers in the day room on Sept. 20 about being a snitch, they said in interviews with investigators. David later that day attacked Rogers in a cell, the affidavit states. Some inmates stepped in to separate David from Rogers, who was beaten unconscious, the Sheriff's Office said.
