CUMBERLAND – The Boys and Girls cross country teams from Mountain Ridge ran their way to team titles Thursday at the Allegany County Cross Country Championship on a wet and muddy course at Allegany College of Maryland.  

The Miners boys placed six runners in the top 10 and scored 23 points, easily outdistancing second place Fort Hill's 50 point showing. Allegany was third with 69 points and Bishop Walsh was fourth with 83 points.  

Mountain Ridge also claimed the individual title as Hlynur Andresson conquered the 3.1 mile course in an impressive 18:07, beating out teammates Rhet Poland and Brandon Redmond, who finished in 18:18 and 18:56, respectively. Fort Hill's Jaredun Twigg was fourth in 19:08 while Allegany freshman Walker Magrath's 19:35 put  him in fifth place just ahead of his teammate, Brandon Rockwell, who crossed the line in 19:57.

The Mountain Ridge Girls nearly equaled the Boys' dominance by placing five runners in the top ten for a score of 30. Bishop Walsh was second with 45 points; Fort Hill had a score of 58 and Allegany was fourth with 91 points.  

Individually, the Miners' Alexis Devault cruised to an easy victory in 21:38, over a minute ahead of second-place Olivia Hager of BW. Maggie Czapski of BW was third in 22:53 and Fort Hill's Chelsie Reikie was fourth in 23:23. Rounding out the top six were Nilufur Ozcan for the Miners in 23:34 and BW's Maria Ritchey in 23:39.
