Mirror Lake night hike
Friends of Mirror Lake State Park in Baraboo are hosting a Halloween Mystery Candlelight Hike on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. Meet at the beach picnic area to begin the easy one-mile torch-lit trail hike at the park, E10320 Fern Dell Road.
Hikers can find clues along the way to discover the hike's mystery guest. Food and beverages will be available for purchase as a fundraiser for the Friends group; www.fwsp.org/mirrorlake.
Victorian celebration
It's trick-or-treat Victorian-style on Saturday at the Villa Louis state historic site in Prairie du Chien.
Victorian Tricks and Treats is planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the restored mansion, 521 N. Villa Louis Road. The event includes traditional harvest-time treats such as fresh-pressed apple cider, along with special after-dark tours.
Cost is $9 for adults, $7.75 for students and ages 65 and older, $4.50 for ages 5-17 and free for under 5. Families with two adults and two or more dependent children are $24; villalouis.wisconsinhistory.org.
Pumpkin train
All aboard the Pumpkin Special — a train ride with pumpkin patch stopover — on the Mid-Continent Railway in North Freedom this coming weekend. The 50-minute rides run on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23; morning times are 10 and 11:30, and afternoon times are 1, 2:30 and 4.
Cost of the Pumpkin Special is $15 for adults, $13 for ages 13-18 and 62 and older, $9 for ages 3-12 and free for under 3. Pumpkins can be picked for an extra cost during a stop at the Quartzite Lake Pumpkin Patch along the way; www.midcontinent.org.
